We ask our 2020 Scholarship Recipients: What are you looking forward to in the next few years?
Patrick Tuttle
Starting in August 2020, Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club will be undergoing a complete renovation. I believe the renovation, which will include new greens, tees, and bunker complexes will be a very valuable experience, both as a resume builder and as hands on experience. Upon completion of the renovation, I see myself landing an Assistant Superintendent position at a high-end resort or country club. I plan on building my experience by finding an Assistant position where I can work closely with the Superintendent on the agronomy plans in order that I may gain all the necessary tools to be a successful Superintendent. Throughout this time, I plan on getting more involved in the local and national chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association. In addition, I plan on attending national events in the golf course maintenance industry in order that I may continue to expand and perfect my knowledge o turfgrass.
Quinlan Muller
I want to have completed my undergraduate clinical lab studies degree at the University of KU. After I complete my degree I want to apply to Lawrence Memorial Hospital as a lab tech to gain experience. After that, I see myself applying to various med schools to complete my graduate degree in pathology.
Brandon Wagner
I hope to have finished my schooling and be working at a country club in the Bay Area. In ten plus years, I hope to be a superintendent in the Oregon area. I look to leave the Bay Area after gaining experience and move somewhere with a lower cost of living.
Cade Cutchen
My focus is to grow as much as possible as an assistant superintendent. My goal is to move up in The Olympic Club organization, gaining valuable experience over the next few years. The Olympic Club has some exciting opportunities for a young turf manager starting with the 2021 US Women’s Open. I especially look forward to working with Gil Hanse on the execution of his master plan for the Club in the years following the Women’s Open. If I am fortunate enough to still be working at The Olympic Club in 2025, then I will add a second USGA Championship to my resume with the 2025 US Amateur. Outside of the Olympic Club, I hope to continue to grow as a GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador. These experiences will only help me become a better turf manager in the future and will serve as the foundation for the rest of my career.
Andrew Bevan
My goal after graduating from Saint Louis University is to become a Certified Flight Instructor and help other students learn how to fly and achieve their goals.
Sean Fernald
I first want to land a job at a sports agency. Then ten years down the line I want to be a top sports agent. I chose these goals because I always want to be the best in all I do.
